‍Description :

To design an app for autonomous vehicles that can help users navigate without them driving.

Project Overview

The Apollo Chariot app provides a user-friendly interface for interacting with the vehicle, planning journeys, managing ride-hailing services, and accessing a suite of advanced settings for enhanced driving experiences.

Target users include autonomous vehicle owners, robotaxi drivers, and passengers. The app is expected to utilize a modern technology stack, including React Native or Flutter for cross-platform app development, Google Cloud Speech-to-Text, Amazon Transcribe, or Microsoft Azure Speech Services for voice assistant interactions, Google Maps Platform, Mapbox, or HERE Maps for route planning and navigation, Stripe, PayPal, or Braintree for secure payment processing, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for hosting and managing app services.

Problem Statement

Problem Statement

Problem Statement

As autonomous vehicles become more prevalent, there is a growing need for user-friendly and intuitive screen-based interfaces that enable seamless interaction between passengers and the vehicle. These interfaces should be designed to accommodate a wide range of users, including those with varying levels of technical proficiency and physical abilities. They should also be able to adapt to different driving scenarios, such as urban commuting, highway travel, and off-road adventures.

Research

I conducted user research and figured which method would be the optimal way to design an app that would meet the needs of most users and learned what features users of different age groups would want to see in an autonomous car experience.

Brand name brainstorm

I choose to go with Apollo chariot as in greek mythology Apollo had a self driving magical sun chariot which matches well with App's autonomous car theme.

Competitor Analysis

Waymo , Cruise and Zoox are the main competitors for Apollo Chariot to learn from in autonomous car app market. Also I wanted Apollo's AI to be more friendly and more adaptable than their versions.

Questionnaires

Asked kids , young adults and older adults on their preferences and ideas for their ideal scenarios when getting inside an autonomous vehicle.

Storyboarding

Story boarding done as an example for a autonomous car UX project , Joel and I planned also I drew the idea in procreate then on to a butter sheet.

Apollo AI crafting

Used eleven labs to make an AI voice for the service and used Procreate to create animations for visuals and used video editing software to synchronise them all together for the prototype.

Common Grounds

Used Venn diagrams to relate and find common grounds between the desires of different user age groups.

Reflection

After recent group critique in class I have learned that overall my class loved my project especially the energy that Apollo AI radiates but I need to change the font in my navigation button labels to be more readable and for the settings screen needs some more adjustments that make it consistent to prior screens, will be updated soon.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning new tools such as Eleven Labs voice cloning for Apollo's AI and Procreate to create animations for the opening screen of Apollo Chariot. Overall, I believe that I have successfully achieved the goal of designing a service that meets the needs of most users.
